QUICK TIP: If you can't say it in 10 words or less, don't say it!
Consider the difference between delivering a long request versus keeping it short and sweet. Little ones do not have the attention span to listen to and understand a long, drawn out request. Teens will tune out from what they expect to become a lecture. Keeping it short will also save your breath and energy!
Example: "Johnny I need you to close the door behind you when you go outside because if you don't then bugs will get into the house, not to mention all of the AC escaping and hiking up our bill......." versus giving the helpful reminder of simply shouting "Door!" as Johnny exits the house.
