QUICK TIP: Tell the Truth
Has your child ever asked you a question you felt totally unprepared to answer? If your answer is yes, you are not alone! Many times in a moment of crisis parents do one of two things: avoid or tell an untruth. This unfortunately will teach your child to search elsewhere for answers. If you want to create honest, open lines of communication with your child- it begins with you!
Application: When your child asks one of 'those' questions, first take a deep breath. Then provide your child with a simple, age-appropriate response. I recommend Schaefer and DiGeronimo's book "How to Talk to Your Kids About Really Important Things"
