QUICK TIP: Admit When You're Wrong
Children learn from the example of their parents. So if you want to teach your child to take responsibility for him or herself, show how it's done! When you've made a mistake (which we all do!) use it as a teachable moment and take responsibility for your error. Your child will have the opportunity to learn accountability and creative problem-solving.
Example: "I had to finish the laundry before we left for soccer" versus "I'm sorry we were late for soccer. Next time I'll make sure to set an alarm to remind me when it's time for us to leave."
